Plumbing Resolutions for 2016

Plumbing New Years Resolutions

In just a few short days, 2015 will come to an end, and we will officially welcome the New Year. Whether you’re celebrating with a night on the town of you’ll be staying home this New Year’s Eve, now is the time to think about those New Year’s Resolutions.

While many resolutions will be broken by the end of January, this year, resolve to stick to taking care of your home, including your plumbing. Here are a few plumbing resolutions for the New Year from your Phoenix plumbers at Plumbing Masters AZ.

Take Care of Your Garbage Disposal

Not everything is meant to go in your garbage disposal. If you have a bad habit of throwing things in your disposal that you shouldn’t, resolve to be kinder to it in 2016. As a quick reminder, here are a few things you should never put in your disposal:

  • Grease/Fats/Oil
  • Potato Peels
  • Banana Peels
  • Rice and Pasta
  • Bones
  • Egg Shells
  • Celery
  • Coffee Grounds

Of course, non-food items should also never find their way into your garbage disposal!

Decrease Your Water Usage

Even the simplest adjustments can save a considerable about of water. Believe it or not, even something as seemingly insignificant as turning the water off while brushing your teeth can save a few thousand gallons of water per year. You can also save big by replacing your old showerhead, fixtures, and toilet with low-flow models that use less water. In addition to having a positive impact on the environment, your decreased usage will have a positive impact on your monthly budget as well.

Stop Treating Your Toilet like a Trashcan

Like your garbage disposal, your toilet is not made to be used as a dumpster. The only things that should ever be flushed are human waste and toilet paper. Don’t flush Q-Tips, wet wipes, hair, facial tissues, paper towels or anything else that should go in the trash can.

Quit Ignoring Minor Issues

Do you have a faucet that’s been dripping for months? Or a toilet with a handle that needs to be jiggled to stop the flow of water? If you’ve been ignoring minor problems like these, resolve to address them in 2016. Even the smallest leak can waste a lot of water or even lead to more serious issues. Many minor plumbing jobs can be tackled by homeowners, but when they become major, they’ll likely require a professional touch.

As we look forward to all of the opportunity the New Year holds, taking care of your plumbing probably doesn’t seem very exciting. However, maintaining the plumbing components in your home and using them properly could help you achieve some of your other goals by preventing you from needing to spend money on an emergency plumbing repair. With properly functioning plumbing and more money in your pocket, you can focus on some of those bigger goals for 2016.

From our family to yours, Plumbing Masters AZ wishes you a safe and Happy New Year!
